Me and My Snuggie...

Ok I know what you are thinking, "A snuggie? The blanket with sleeves that has that cheesy infomercial?" and yes indeed that would be true. But what you probably don't know is that it is the most comfortable thing in the WORLD! It was probably the best christmas present ever. I find myself day dreaming about taking naps in my warm Snuggie!
(That is not me by the way!)
5 REASONS WHY I LOVE MY SNUGGIE:
#1. It is PINK
#2. It has sleeves, making guitar hero very easy and typing on the computer a cinch.
#3. It is warm but not too warm.
#4. It is incredibly soft.
#5. IT IS PINK!!!

Am I obsessed? Maybe...Do you have a problem with that?

The Best Things Happen While You're...

DANCING! Ok this is not true! Don't get me wrong I love Danny Kaye and the movie White Christmas but this is a lie...the best thing DO NOT happen while you are dancing! How, might you ask, can I truly know this? Simple...Ensemble. We have begun our traveling December show and of course some complicated partner dance is involved. I learned something...I can't dance...I don't posses any grace (AT ALL!). Luckily I have a partner that is better then me, but then again I feel bad because I kind of bring him down. Jumping into someone's arms is not really my idea of fun, especially when they have to flip you around their back or throw you enthusiastically into the air. I struggle.

Our Song

Ok I know this post is going to be cheesy but, deal with it! Hehehe! So this week was Homecoming and I had a blast! One thing that was so awesome was that Russ and I now have a song. I was recently talking to Amy about how he rarely even listens to music and so we didn't have a song. I told him this and we decided we would eventually find one. As we were driving home from dinner, Truman turned on For the Longest Time by Billy Joel. We all belted it out (except for Bailey who unfortunately had a cold) and as I listened to the words I thought it was perfect! Russ squeezed my hand and I looked at him and said "How about this one?" and he said ok! So there you go Amy, now we have a song!

A Few Nice Things

So as I have said before (at least I think) I am in my school's production of the Music Man. We haven't been rehearsing over U.E.A. so to keep it fresh in my mind I have been reading Meredith Wilson's story of how he wrote The Music Man entitled (ironically enough) "But He Doesn't Know the Territory." I have loved reading it and I came across this passage that really helped with the ever important character development. Since I am going to be living and breathing Marian for the next few weeks, I thought I'd post it:
"Her first act song—the first version of “My White Knight”—was at that time in the form of a short introspective ballad, expressing her longing for the guy of her dreams. When we know exactly what kind of guy that is, we ought to know what we don’t know yet about this girl. Her lyric in this song, so far, didn’t tell us enough. It isn’t a Lancelot she wants, nor a John L. Sullivan. She’s not a snob either—she doesn’t want any egghead necessarily, nor is she afraid of getting a little manure on her front porch from the local Iowa farm boys. Okay, we know all that. What else? Maybe she just wants a guy who is not too Iowa-Stubborn to love her and admit it once in a while. A guy who is not ashamed of a few nice things she likes around the house. Like the Marble Faun and Emerson’s Essays. “A guy,” I says, “who—for example—is not ashamed of a few nice things. Just someone who loves her, who is not ashamed of a few nice things!” And there it finally sat—just like that. Fell into the lyric like a clam in the chowder. And the three of us let out a holler and rushed out the door to dinner. Once of these days I’d unravel Miss Marian for keeps. Now I knew."

Sailing for Adventure

Muppet Treasure Island is simply a movie that I could never get sick of! Such a classic...! I was pondering this because this week a friend from the musical burned the soundtrack for me! It brought me so much bliss that he would actually do that and it brought me even more bliss that I got to listen to it after a long day at musical, with my bud Bryson and with a 64 oz. of Diet Dr. Pepper in my hand! Such joy. This just goes to show that the most simple things in life can bring the most joy. So I just thought I'd take some time to give a tribute to those loveable Muppets.

--"When you're a professional pirate...You don't have to wear a suit."
--"Love led us here."
--"It just feels so weird." "What that Mr. Errowls dead?" "Well that...and my pants are full of starfish!" "You and your hobbies!"
--"I may be visually challenged but I know you are a girl!"
--"Beware!" "What of the one legged man?" "No...of running with scissors...it's all fun and games till someone loses and EYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEE
EEEEEE!"
--"How does she do that?"
--"Your finger hired the crew?" "No that is silly...Mr. Bimble the man who lives in my finger hired the crew."
--"Let's not get sloppy just because we're singing!"
--"What was that song that happened just now?" "What?" "You know, Cabin Fever AH!"
--"You know the ocean...the big blue wet thing?"
--"Aren't you supposed to be fighting against us?" "Are you kidding?I LOVE YOU GUYS!"

Rainy Days and Mondays...

Have you ever heard the song "Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters? Great song, you gotta love the Carpenters. But you know something, I strongly disagree with it. I love RAINY DAYS...and it made today (a Monday ironically!) that much better. The rain just gets rid of all my problems, it makes everything fine and dandy. I didn't even care that I had a headache at rehearsal or that the directors were grouchy cause it was RAINING! So much joy. I can't imagine why people don't like the rain. It makes me so happy! I think this means I have to move to London or Seattle--somewhere that it rains a lot!

Word Vomit

Most of you who read my blog...haha like two people...know that I love just letting all the random comments flow out of me. Sometimes I do it to rant, to let my thoughts escape my crammed head, to say what I want and just for the sake of being RANDOM! So here goes...

--I am learning the song "Fallin' for You" by Colbie Calliat on the guitar! It is a gem of a song.
--Vitamin C's "Friends Forever" song is NOT a gem of a song. In fact it makes me want to vomit.
--Photoshop is my new favorite thing...I could play on it for HOURS!
--I dislike it when raspberry seeds get stuck in my teeth.
--Some people are just dang amazing at giving hugs...Lucky me!
--Section leader? Does this mean I have to pay attention during sectionals?
--We might need to actually talk to each other beforehand or this could be potentially awkward.
--A date where you go to the Top Stop is actually very romantic in my opinion! Plus Jamba, Wendy's and Five Guys would be a good addition.
--"She's got you high and you don't even know yet..."
--Ali is my Mix Making soul mate! Who knew our music tastes are so similar!
--Sometimes it is very healthy to be late to seminary because you are getting Otter Pops at Stuart's house.
--I am already on the awkward wall in Yearbook...Wow...
--Who doesn't like guacamole on their Cafe Rio salad? That is just straight up bizarre!
--He tells me what I NEED to hear not what I WANT to hear. So good for me.
--"Me and Julio down by the schoolyard!"
--I am still giddy that we now possess the ROCK!
--Child Care is going to be lonely.
--New favorite people make life exciting, especially people in musicals! So many awesome peeps!
--"Don't you forget about me!"
--I love to speak with my version of an Italian accent.
--Say that to my FACE!
--"Well I love your spleen..."
--I want to watch the Mr. Rogers where he goes to the Crayon factory.
--Tilamook cheese is the BEST!
--3 steps lower...Bummer...I like those high notes...
--"Eat slugs Malfoy"
--Marrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ian!
--What about the Bob the Builder theme song for Graduation?
--I am going to have Russ make me some sweet stickers in graphics! Woot!
--I love playdough, especially pink playdough! JOY!
--Focus...Focus on BOB!
--"Just because it's right doesn't mean you should...Oh wait just because you should...wait...NEVERMIND!"
--"You! Your tacky and I hate you!" I love School of Rock.

THE END...FOR NOW...

Senior...What the weird?

I will be a senior in roughly 11 hours...WEIRD! I am not nearly old enough. Maybe I am dreaming and am going to wake up tomorrow back as the 5 year old I act like...But I will eventually have to except that and so here is a list on the things I am looking forward to...
#1. MR. FELT! Oh how I missed him and his perfect notes on the chalkboard, his puns and costumes. I can't wait for AP European.
#2. The musical...So many good times are on the horizon.
#3. Yearbook. I have heard so much from Bailey about all the good times last year and I can't wait to experience it for myself! Photo staff ROCKS! Also it will give me the chance to get involved in more school activities!
#4. Football games...I am going to some...in fact MOST of them! I need to get my green skinny jeans!
#5. Ensemble...Christmas show...just straight up bonding time...Disney show...TOUR...
#6. Being the oldest at the school. Oh the power.
#7. Chilling with my awesome and fun friends.
#8. Being able to drive.
#9. The day when the sophomores and juniors have to come to school and take those dumb tests. HA!
#10. Senior sluff day...and senior prank
I am sure I will think of more later!

Snug as a Bug in a Rug

The past month I have had a regular night time routine of tucking my sister Megan into bed. Yes you may laugh at the thought of me tucking my 20 year old sister in, but it has become a summer ritual that proceeds as follows...
"Sarah I am ready for sleepy, sleepy time!"
We go to her room.
She has me fetch her phone for her and sets her morning alarm.
I close the closet so she is protected from the "monster guys" living in it.
I tuck her in.
Kiss her forehead, say "I Love You."
Turn out the light.
I was saddened by the thought that this will be the last time I will do this for a while because she is returning to college! I like being able to take care of her, repay her for all the times she tucked me in and not feel like the littlest sister for a while. I will miss her while she is gone but I know that when ever she comes back home I will be called upon for tuck in duties and that I look forward to! Love you Megs!

Is Anyone Home Up There?

Remember how I am sometimes not very smart? Oh here is a good one...(Megan please don't tell Mom and Dad this story, they will make me feel even more stupid and irresponsible) So I recently received my Drivers License (FINALLY) and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving home from work the past 3 nights. So tonight I was driving along, blasting my show tunes if you wanted to know, and suddenly a cop turns on his lights behind me. I panicked, what in the heck did I do? I know I was going the speed limit, nothing illegal that I knew of. I pulled over and tried very hard to remain calm as the Police officer approached my window, I thought I might pee my pants or even burst into tears. "Here's the thing," he said intimidatingly "I will let you go...If you turn on your lights." WOW. That was probably the dumbest thing I have ever done. Who forgets to turn on their lights when driving at night? Me apparently. So anyways I played the dumb card "Oh right... sorry!" I said in my girly blonde voice and drove away quickly (but of course going the speed limit). I feel really dumb but I decided to post this story in order to learn to laugh at myself...haha, it was pretty funny!

"Super" Thinking...

A few days ago when I got home from work my sister was watching Superman Returns on TV. While watching, I became lost in thought...Who is the best superhero? I mean surely they all have their good points...like saving the world and all that, but who is the BEST. After much thinking pondering and argument I decided on Batman and here are the reasons why...

#1. Batman has not been given any extra powers. He doesn't have "Spidey senses" or super strength, he just works with what he has and still can kick butt.
#2. Batman's outfit is by far the best. Black is sexy, plus it makes him look thin AND it helps him be stealth. Also I think his outfit makes his muscles look very big!
#3. Batman's normal self Bruce Wayne isn't a nerd like Peter Parker or Clark Kent.
#4. Batman's real name is Bruce...enough said.
#5. George Clooney and Christian Bale have both played Batman...once again enough said.
#6. The Batman theme song is MONEY!
Just a little taste into what I think about! So Random

Confessions of a Dumb Blonde...

You know something, I have always hated that blondes are considered to be dumb. Stereotypes always bug me but as I have thought about it I am sort of a dumb blonde myself. Not to degrade myself or act like I am dumb but sometimes I lack what  you might call common sense...

Example #1. I didn't realize that you can do zeros when you text message. I always used o's because I couldn't figure out how to use the gosh darn zeros. Apparently you just hold the zero button down...Major Newsflash.
Example #2. I ran into a wall...not just bumping into the wall...I full on ran straight at it. It really hurt and of course my sisters were there to witness, it also didn't help that there was a large metal star on  the wall that "cushioned the hit".
Example #3. One time while making hot chocolate I put the hot chocolate mix in the microwave instead of my cocoa cup. Then I discovered
my cocoa cup on the counter and couldn't figure out where I put the hot chocolate mix.

Hehehe, so many other blonde moments! But hey we all experience them sometimes! I think it just a natural part of life to help us laugh at ourselves...Plus blondes have more fun!
"Hey Dip Face!"

Summer Accomplishments...

I have decided to celebrate the small stuff! So far this summer I have been able to do some pretty exciting things and have made some small accomplishments that I get excited about...
#1. I got my first kiss on June 8th.
#2. I saw 7 musicals on Broadway.
#3. I didn't use the airplane bathroom on the way to or on the way home from Europe.
#4. I finished Gone with the Wind, the book and movie. (Both were SPECTACULAR!)
#5. I rode my bike 30 miles (never doing that again)
#6. I jumped in a glacial lake.
#7. I rode on a train, bus, airplane, tour bus, metro, subway, rental car, boat and cruise ship in a period of two weeks.
#8. I ate pasta in Little Italy and in REAL Italy within 2 weeks of each other.
#9. I am currently working on Drivers ED, this is a big step for me. I am 1 observation and 3 drives away from getting my license.
#10. I managed to have a Diet Dr. Pepper everyday at Girls camp, even though that is pretty much illegal.
#11. I learned how to use a Tampon, which is also conquering a fear. Normally I wouldn't discuss this but I know that only girls read my blog so I feel ok about it.
#12. I have perfected my skills at the Lion House shaved ice wedding reception buffet.
#13. I played my guitar in front of my Young Womens...it was kind of scary but way fun after a while.
#14. I have managed to actually hang out more then I did last summer...Way more.
#15. I slept outside on the trampoline with my cousins. I say I want to do this every summer but then I never do.

I know that these all sound so silly! But for me each one has been a big deal! Hopefully in these last few weeks I can accomplish even more!

The Twin-er GUYS

Here are some priceless videos of my 5 year old cousins Seth and Jack dancing and singing! Maybe I just think they are funny because I know them! Oh Ya! And their older brother Ben ripping his shirt off...Don't ask...

Proud to be an American

I recently returned from a trip to Europe! It was spectacular. I got to eat pizza, pasta and gelato in Italy. See the leaning tower of Pisa. Toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain. See a Flamanco dance in Spain. Eat Crepes in France...And so much more that I am very grateful for! However it made me realize what I love about America!

Here are some of the differences...
#1. The Soda Situation...Really no Dr. Pepper in Europe come on? I guess people just don't drink a lot of soda there because they don't give free refills.
#2. The Beach...Oh wow. I am just grateful that in America women leave their bikini tops on!
#3.Men wearing capris...Never a good idea. It is just weird.
#4. Smoking! Ick I felt like there was a lot more smokers in Europe than in the U.S. but that could be that we live in Utah! Smoking on the train...Really that was just gross.
#5. The Toilet seat...Um...I just really missed it. It isn't fun to almost fall in the toilet every
time you have to go!

Hehehe! Don't get me wrong I love both America and Europe. I am just grateful that I can vacation there and live here!

Electricity!

Last week I got the opportunity to go to New York City with my mom. New York is one of my favorite destinations because Broadway just happens to be one one of my FAVORITE THINGS! I was able to see six shows...Blithe Spirit, Shrek, Billy Elliot, 9 to 5, West Side Story and Guys and Dolls. I was in HEAVEN!

I loved all of the shows and it is hard to say exactly which one is my favorite but I would say I was particularly moved by Billy Elliot. Billy Elliot is the story of a boy in a mining town in England. The town is on strike and amidst this Billy ends up getting involved in dance. The dancing in this show was breath taking and almost made me cry. My favorite part is when Billy tries out for the Royal Ballet Academy and explains how dancing makes him feel (of course it is done through song!) He describes it like electricity that he can't even control. Everyone has their own thing that makes them feel like Billy describes for me it is singing and performing. Nothing gives me that surge of electricity and energy like that does!

The Rhett Butler Factor...

I am currently on a mission to finish Gone With the Wind. I started the book in January and still have not been able to finish it (I am only 370 pages in out of 970 WOW!) Not that I haven't been enjoying it, I just have not had very much time to read lately.

The other day while reading, a light bulb went off. I thought I would share although it is  not very impressive or unique. Rhett Butler is so dang attractive, but why? As you read you are reading from Scarlet's perspective and all she focuses on is his faults so it seems like the reader would not like him at all. WRONG! I think it is that Rhett is HUMAN and just like your average boy/man. He is frustrating and never does quite what you think he will. He puts on this attitude of not caring when he really does. He can be arrogant and teases Scarlet shamelessly. But despite all this you can't help but love him--He is real. He really does care about Scarlet and I think he is a good character despite his faults. It gave me hope to think that boys are really worth it, despite the hassle they can sometimes cause because deep down they really do care.

The Girl I Mean to Be...

As mentioned in my previous post, I have thoroughly enjoyed the Masterpiece Theatre drama Little Dorrit. I have been watching for a few weeks and have fallen in love Dicken's masterpiece. At this point I should probably confess that-I have never read a novel by Charles Dickens. However I do enjoy watching the mini-series based on his books, especially Our Mutual Friend.

Between the Little Dorrit and Our Mutual Friend I have come to really appreciate the complexity of Dicken's characters. He always has the bizare/out there characters that make no sense whatsoever, accompanied by the selfish/wealthy/snotty characters. The most important however is his selfless characters that do anything and everything for the ones they love. In the Little Dorrit this character is Amy, also known as Little Dorrit. She gives her world taking care of her father who lives in debtors prison and is somewhat impatient and selfish himself. She sees the good in him and knows there is a reason to his "madness".  She spends her time brightening other peoples lives such as characters like Pet Meagles and Maggie. Amy has her own troubles to worry about but instead she focuses on the needs of others. She is the most selfless person I can ever imagine!

Ever since I watched this show I have had a desire to become more like Amy. I want to be someone who is WILLING to do all she can to help others, someone who is selfless and is always thinking of others before themselves, and someone who would do ANYTHING for the ones they love. I have a goal to strive continually to be like her!

I Won't Grow Up...

You know something...growing up is over rated. Today as I took the ACT I thought "what is the point?" I realized that my whole high school career had built up to this moment to determine where I would get into college! AH! I would be content to act like a five year old forever, and not having to think about the FUTURE. Such a scary word. As I was in Disneyland this week, I looked around to find that everyone no matter how old became a kid again in the Disney atmosphere. I wish the whole world could be like that! Plus there would be Princesses walking around, which is always a bonus!

I guess the solution to this "growing up" situation is to fly to Neverland! You never know maybe Peter Pan will be flying through my window tonight! Hehehe!

If I Can Dream

My favorite Elvis song right now...

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere,
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue,
If I can dream of a better land where all my brothers walk hand in hand,
Tell me why oh why, oh why can't my dream come true, Oh Why?

There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear,
If I can dream of a warmer sun where hope keeps shining on everyone,
Tell me why oh why oh why won't that sun appear?

We're lost in a cloud with too much rain,
We're trapped in a world that's troubled with pain,
But as long a man has the strength to dream he can redeem his soul and fly.
Deep in my heart there's a trembling question,
still I am sure that the answers gonna come some how,
Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle,
And while I can think, while I can talk,
While I can stand,while I can Walk,
While I can dream, please let my dream come true....RIGHT NOW!

"Scratches his head and does his best James Dean"

A couple months ago a friend let me borrow the movie "Rebel Without a Cause". I had heard of it--a fifties classic staring the "oh so amazing" James Dean, but had my doubts. I ended up enjoying every minute of the movie. Something about James Dean really appealed to me and I realized that the "amazing" part is true. Well this week the same friend let me borrow "East of Eden" another one staring the one and only James Dean. I was really excited despite the fact that it is another movie based on a Steinbeck novel, whom I really dislike (well at least I dislike Grapes of Wrath). James Dean was so good at playing Cal, you almost had to wonder. His acting seemed so effortless and yet so unique. (Not to mention, he is highly attractive). Strangely enough, I have been thinking about James Dean an awful lot. I have read about all his problems, but still did not loose this fascination with him. There is something about that sparkle in his eye that you can't help but love. I guess what this all comes down to is that I am a sucker for the rebels...

Rolls...Rolls and MORE Rolls...

First of all--I am a horrible blogger. I can't believe the last time I posted was before Thanksgiving, I guess it has just been a whirlwind couple of months. Christmas was a blast but very busy, there was plenty of parties, family things and work GALORE! But I loved it and had a very good break with plenty of R&R.

Second of all--I work at the best place on earth! The Lion House in downtown Salt Lake. Other then the fact that I am positive it is haunted and that some day the ghost of Brigham Young is going to appear to me (I will post about that some other time), I love it! Hehehe! One thing that I have learned is that people will do anything--And I mean ANYTHING to get another buttery, soft and golden Lion House Roll.Between the salad and main dish course people are always begging for more. Example #1...While I was serving rolls I put a roll on a couple peoples plates and then ran out. When I came back with more they claimed they hadn't gotten any. I indulged them ("Always give them the pickle" is what the Lion House training videos say) as I put more on their plates I noticed that they hid their rolls under their napkins on their laps! Really?! Come on people, just ask for another one, We always have plenty.
Example #2...While serving rolls, a man was so desperate that he actually grabbed, with his bare hands another one with the remark of "Oops I touched it, I guess I should have it." Wow that is not pathetic at all! Hehehe!

Although it is somewhat pathetic what people do for Lion House rolls, it is pretty easy to understand why! No bread in the world compares...but I am not biased or anything :D ! The moral of the story is, Just ask for another roll, no lying or shifty ways necessary!
